Former Metro TV presenter, Riyah Abdul reveals she earned Ghc600 while working in Ghana

Media personality Riyah Abdul has spoken about the financial struggles she experienced early in her career while working in Ghana.

In a conversation with Chude Jideonwo, the former Metro TV presenter said she was earning about Ghc600 at the time.

“I was taking about 600 cedis then,” she said during the discussion.

According to Abdul, the income was not enough to support her daily needs.

She said her experiences growing up in poverty also influenced her decision to pursue opportunities outside Ghana.

“I grew up in deep poverty,” she said. “I knew that if I remained there I would die a poor person and I didn’t want that.”

The move to Nigeria was not easy. Abdul said she arrived in the country without strong connections and had to adjust to difficult living conditions.

“When I came, I used to sleep on the floor,” she said. “People who know me will tell you that story.”

Despite the challenges, she continued to pursue her media career and eventually secured her first opportunity through a recommendation that led to a role with New Central TV.

Looking back, Abdul said the difficult period taught her resilience.

“It’s the grace of God and my talent,” she said.
