I Was Blacklisted After Working With Shatta Wale – Sista Afia
Ghanaian musician Sista Afia has alleged that her collaboration with dancehall star Shatta Wale negatively impacted her standing within the music industry and led to years of being overlooked by major award schemes.
Speaking in an interview on Kumasi-based Angel FM, Sista Afia claimed that some industry gatekeepers began sidelining her shortly after she worked with Shatta Wale.
“I really suffered industry sabotage after I collaborated with Shatta Wale,” she stated.
According to the singer, the challenges started despite the collaboration achieving success and receiving positive reactions from music fans.
“After the song, that is where they started not nominating me for TGMA and lots of awards,” she alleged.
Sista Afia further claimed that her association with Shatta Wale during periods of controversy within the entertainment industry caused some stakeholders to view her as part of his camp.
“I got involved in Shatta Wale issues and scandals that were happening, so no matter how hard I worked, I had no nominations,” she said.
The musician also revealed that some individuals within the music industry allegedly told her directly that her collaboration with the dancehall artiste contributed to the hostility she experienced.
“I was even in conversations where some industry players told me it was the collaboration I had with Shatta Wale that made the industry hostile toward me,” she disclosed.
Her comments add to previous concerns she has raised about recognition and nominations within the Telecel Ghana Music Awards and other industry award platforms.
Sista Afia maintained that despite the challenges, the collaboration itself performed well commercially and gained popularity among music fans.
“The song became a hit, but I had no nominations for it,” she lamented.
Despite her frustrations, the singer disclosed that her relationship with Shatta Wale remains strong and that another collaboration between them is already on the way.
“Anyways, I have another song with him, and it will be out soon,” she announced.
