“My Mum Discouraged Me To Pursue Music And Even Asked Me To Come Back To Germany” – Wendy Shay

In an interview with Nigerian media personality Adesope Olajide, Ghanaian Afropop singer Wendy Shay boldly declared herself to be “the most bullied artist in the history of Ghanaian music.”

Looking back on her early career, Wendy said it was difficult to break into the music industry following the tragic loss of her friend Ebony. She described how her entire family was impacted by the public’s outrage and unrelenting criticism.

My mother advised me to resign and return to Germany, as it was insane and had an impact on my entire family. According to her, some of my family members were even too ashamed to be around me at the time, Wendy said.

Wendy Shay claims that things became so bad that her mother begged her to give up on her goals and go back to Germany, where she had resided before moving to Ghana to pursue her musical career. She said her family found it hard to handle the severity of the public attacks.

Wendy feels that the event strengthened her, even if it was unpleasant.

“That strengthened me, yet I wouldn’t even wish that on my greatest enemy.

I still have lovers that listen to my songs despite everything. “I’m always number one whenever they rank the most streamed female artists,”
she continued.

A defining characteristic of Wendy Shay’s path has been her tenacity in the face of harsh criticism and emotional hardship.
