Shatta Wale Begs President Akuffo Addo To Invest 10% Off Sports Budget Into The Music Industry
Shatta Wale, the popular Ghanaian dancehall artist, wants the government to devote 10% of its funding to sports to the music business.
The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, attended a breakfast meeting with CEOs of corporate institutions last month, during which the Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, projected that the Black Stars’ participation in the two tournaments would cost the government a quarter of a billion dollars.
“To be able to fulfill this task, these campaigns demand a significant amount of funding, roughly $25 million, and government alone cannot carry this burden at the detriment of other sports disciplines,” he added.
President Akufo-Addo went on to say that the government will provide $10 million to the squad, with the remainder of the $15 million raised by a committee established up by the Sports Ministry.
However, in a live broadcast speech to the country, Shatta Wale pleaded with the government to put aside a portion of the money designated for sports for the music sector.
The Dancehall artiste urged with the authorities to use music to encourage tourism.
“I want to again implore the state administration to implement a strategy to use music as a tourist tool to promote the country,” Shatta Wale stated.
