“I Wanted To Be Cyril’s Girlfriend In YOLO” – Fella Makafui Reveals
Actress and philanthropist Fella Makafui has shared her thoughts about why she first turned down the opportunity to play Serwaa in the hit television show “YOLO.”
During her appearance on The Afternoon Show on Thursday, May 2, the businesswoman and filmmaker said that she turned down the opportunity to play Serwaa in YOLO when director Ivan Quashigah offered it to her.
Fella claims that during the audition process, she had her sights set on the YOLO series character Emily, who played Cyril’s girlfriend, and she wanted to play Emily.
She emphasized that, before making her acting debut in the Yolo series, she worked for her mother as a bread vendor and didn’t want to do the same in Serwaa.
Actually, I informed Ivan Quashigah that I wouldn’t be a YOLO and rejected taking on the character of Serwaa.
I told him I wouldn’t even go through with the auditions because, at the time, I had such a strong sense of self-worth that I was unaware that I would have to go through that process in order to become an actress.
“During the audition process, I was drawn to the part of Emily, but I was advised to portray Serwaa instead. This didn’t sit well with me since I was already selling bread to my mother before traveling to Accra; I wouldn’t be doing the same in a movie,” she stated on TV3’s The Afternoon Show.
