“I Am Not A VGMA Board Member” – Richie Clarifies (Video)
Richie Mensah, the CEO of Lynx Entertainment, has finally responded to charges made by some industry insiders that he is a member of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) management board.
Richie Mensah confirmed unequivocally in an interview with Doreen Avio that he is not a member of the award scheme’s board of directors, as some industry insiders have suspected.
According to him, he had only been on the board once, in 2014, when none of his record label’s artists were nominated in any of the categories. He went on to say that because of his one-time appearance on the board, many assumed he was a member.
On social media, there has been debate about Lynx CEO’s participation on the VGMA Board of Directors and how he uses his power to influence his artists’ award achievement.
According to Richie, if such is the case, he would have used his power to persuade his artists to win Artiste of the Year 14 times.
Why haven’t we won Artiste of the Year fourteen times if I’m so powerful?” he enquired,
According to him, anyone who has an affiliation with any musician listed on the award scheme is not eligible to be a board member of the VGMA, and Kuami Eugene and Kidi have not yet been signed to the label as of 2014.
If I’m so great, how come we haven’t won Artiste of the Year fourteen times?” he wondered.
According to him, anyone who has a relationship with any of the musicians on the VGMA’s list of nominees is ineligible to serve on the board, while Kuami Eugene and Kidi have yet to sign with the label as of 2014.
Meanwhile, Richie Mensah took home the VGMA Producer of the Year award yesterday.
