“Seeing My Family Suffer When I Was Growing, Made Me Hustle Hard” – Olamide
Olamide, a Nigerian rapper and music mogul, has opened up about his childhood troubles, recounting how he grew up in a slum in Lagos State's Bariga axis.
In an interview, he granted with the Guardian UK posted by Instablog9ja, Olamide who is the founder of YBNL Records suggested that being in the ghetto inspired him to strive and work hard.
One of the most difficult aspects of his childhood, he said, was survival, and he described how his family battled to finance a three-square-meal-a-day diet.
“It was difficult to stay alive. Bariga was not dissimilar to the other slums seen across the world, from Mumbai to New York and London — ghetto life is nearly identical everywhere, he said.
It used to be a great issue for my family to be able to buy three square meals. All of this inspired me to work hard because I wanted to tour the globe and learn about different cultures than the ones I grew up with.” he ended.
