Hartpury College in the United Kingdom has given Ghana striker Abdul a sports honorary degree (UK).

The honor was bestowed on the 30-year-old on Thursday, November 4, 2021, during a brief ceremony on the College's campus.

Waris was born in Lamashegu, Tamale, the Northern Region's capital, and migrated to England when he was very young. The player enrolled at Hartpury College while also being accepted into the Nike Academy.

His ability and skill on the pitch gained him a spot in Forest Green Rovers' reserve team. In 2010, Waris landed a dream transfer to Swedish club BK Hacken, where he developed into a full Ghana international.

The striker thanked Hartpury College for their unwavering support throughout his playing career.

“I'm honoured to receive the sports honorary degree Award in Hartpury college (UK) yesterday,” he wrote on Twitter.

“[I] Want to say a big thanks to RTD and Hartpury college for their continuous support and also to my family, friends and team mate.”

Waris currently plied his trade at Ligue 1 side Racing Strasbourg, where he has made nine appearances this season.
