Ghana has never held state burials for dead musicians – Smart Nkansah
According to renowned highlife performer Smart Nkansah, no deceased musician in Ghana has ever received a state funeral. The veteran highlife performer was a member of the same ensemble as the late AB Crentsil.
On Onua FM's Anigye mmere entertainment program, Smart Nkansah responded to the passing of AB Crentsil by saying that the late highlife musician deserved a state funeral.
“AB Crenstil deserves to be buried in state. But the government won't carry out his request. No musician in Ghana has ever had a state funeral, he claimed.
When asked to defend his position, he responded, “The government has solely assisted the families of deceased artists in their funeral organizations over the years. What they did for CK Mann, Paapa Yankson, and Jewel Ackah
“What they've done for our dead can never be likened to state burial. When you are given seven gun salutes, that's when the state has properly buried someone. Even Nana Ampadu's burial, we've been fighting for him to be buried by the state,” he concluded.
