Why I Haven’t Join Any Record Label – Sarkodie Opens Up
Sarkodie, whose real name is Michael Owusu Addo, had never been signed to a record company until operating under his own record label, SarkCess Music. Why he has never signed with a record company has been the subject of much speculation.
Sarkodie, however, has explained why he has shunned collaboration with other record firms in a recent statement.
In his latest rap song, “Fraud (guy) in Suit,” Sarkodie explained why he has never signed with a record company. He discussed how record label contracts sometimes deprive musicians who work for them of their independence.
There will always be some crook [guy] in a suit attempting to con you out of money to keep quiet. The Ghanaian music icon spat, which is hip-hop for rapping. It has always been part of the game.
How many will be actual owners? “Just a handful,” he said, drawing attention to the fact that many artists do not possess their works of art or have as much as they could represent to the public.
