Goalie Benjamin Asare is still not on par with his teammates Jojo Wollacott and Lawrence Ati-Zigi, according to former Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko coach Joseph Emmanuel Sarpong.
JE Sarpong claims that although Asare performed admirably in his first two games as a Black Stars goalie, those games didn’t truly put him to the test.
While admitting that Asare’s debut was superior to that of the previously named goalkeepers, JE Sarpong said that the true test would come when Ghanaians would be able to see the Hearts of Oak goalkeeper’s true potential.
“The pressure Ati-Zigi and Wollacott faced while keeping post for Ghana, Asare didn’t experience that. There was no pressure on him. Sometimes, when he was idle, they would pass the ball back to him.
We are yet to see his real quality.”
“When we face top-class players who take long shots, put pressure on the defense, and attempt unexpected strikes, and Asare can respond to those, then we can say he is at that level,” he said.
