“Akwaboah Is Better Than Kuami Eugene” – Kaakyire Kwame Appiah
Kaakyire Kwame Appiah, a legendary Highlife singer, has announced that among the new crop of music artists following the Highlife music genre, Akwaboah Jnr. is the only one who does the indigenous authentic things.
He said the one who is currently holding up the Highlife genre is Akwaboah. However, he noted that Kuami Eugene and a few artistes in the industry are trying their best but have renamed the Highlife genre as Afrobeat.
The Highlife genre of music, according to Kaakyire Kwame Appiah, is steadily fading from the system due to the lack of airplay offered to Highlife music on radio.
“They are all doing well but most people see us the veterans to be old so much of the Highlife mixes don’t include our songs”.
“Even though these new crop of artistes are enjoying their reign and I respect that but I also had my time in the past that’s why I’m referred to as a legend, he added.
In an on-air radio interview with Amansan Krakye on Cape Coast’s Kastle FM, Kaakyire Kwame Appiah clarified that veteran Highlife songs should not be overlooked because today’s Highlife musicians are giving it their all.
If you play our old or new Highlife songs together with the new guys people will remember that we’re still alive and even when we’re dead our songs still live on forever
We have some amazing songs that if you play alongside that of the current guys it will be very interesting than always neglecting us for only the new crop of Highlife artistes.
