‘Tarzan’ Actor Joe Lara Has Died In A Plane Crash With His Wife
Joe Lara, well known for his role in Tarzan: The Epic Adventures on television, died in an aircraft crash in Tennessee. He was 58 years of age.
The actor was one of seven persons killed when a tiny plane, a Cessna Citation 501, crashed into Percy Priest Lake near Smyrna on Saturday (May 29). Gwen Shamblin Lara, his 66-year-old wife, was also killed.
Jennifer J. Martin, David L. Martin, Jessica Walters, Jonathan Walters, and Brandon Hannah are the additional victims. They were all locals who attended the same church.
According to TMZ, emergency crews worked into the night on Saturday before concluding that all of the passengers had died. An inquiry into the reason for the collision is ongoing.
Joe initially played Tarzan in the TV movie Tarzan In Manhattan, then reprised the character in the TV series that followed.
While Tarzan was his most well-known role, he also appeared in Steel Frontier, Sunset Heat, Gunsmoke: The Last Apache, American Cyborg: Steel Warrior, The Magnificent Seven, Baywatch, and Tropical Heat.
In 2002, Joe left acting to pursue a career in country music.
Gwen formed the Remnant Fellowship Church in 1999 after becoming a diet expert. ‘Life With Gwen And Joe,’ a YouTube channel she and Joe ran, provided followers a glimpse into their lives together.
In 2018, the couple tied the knot. They have two adult children from Gwen’s previous marriage.
