Shatta Wale

's and his colleagues' cellphones, which are still in police custody, have been ordered released by the Accra Circuit Court 4.

Jerry Avenorgbo, the dancehall artiste's and his team members' lawyer, told court Emmanuel Essandor that the things were impounded and have not been released since his clients' detention.

He said that his clients are celebrities in the entertainment and lifestyle industries who rely heavily on their cellphones and that the police's refusal to give them access to them is putting their lives in jeopardy.

According to Jerry Avenorgbo, everything of the information the police would need for their investigation is already available on social media, so breaking into his clients' phones would just serve to violate their privacy.

“It is not the responsibility of the defense to assist the prosecution in making their case,” Judge Emmanuel Essandor concluded. After all, unless proven guilty, the accused is assumed innocent. They should have access to the accused's cell phones. “The accused offenses were reportedly committed through the use of social media.”

The matter will be heard again on December 7, 2021.

Meanwhile, the prosecutor in the case, Chief Inspector Dennis Terpketey, has informed the Court that new information about the case is becoming available.

He revealed that the police had launched a manhunt for a wanted suspect and that the person's ultimate capture may alter the facts of the case.

He asked the court to postpone the hearing until the next week when the State and his team would have filed their materials.
