“You Don’t Need The Blessings Of Your Parents Before You Can Marry” – Okyeame Kwame Asserts

Renowned Ghanaian artist Okyeame Kwame has spoken up about how his parents' religious beliefs prevented him from marrying his wife, but he still got married.

Based on his account, his mother and other family members did not accept his wife, Annica Nsiah-Apau, since she is a Jehovah's Witness.

After agreeing to live apart from their parents, he revealed that his wife had become more receptive to the terms of their marriage, despite her initial misgivings about it due to the discord between their families.

Because he was unconcerned by their behavior, Okyeame Kwame stated that he told his parents about the marriage the night before the wedding, which prevented his parents from blessing it.

“Our marriage was never approved by them [our parents]. She was employed by a legal company by the time we had a performance scheduled in Kumasi. Upon arriving at Nkawkaw, Okyeame Kwame's wife informed us that Ghanaians had three essential components to a marriage.

“We have two ordinances: one customary and the other Mohammedan. Will the individuals who oppose our marriage move in with us then? I immediately said, “No,” and we proceeded to KMA, Okyeame, to register the marriage.

According to Okyeame Kwame, a marriage can flourish even without the support of one's parents because God alone bestows blessings and is not human.

“Both families were in love with one another, but they couldn't agree on religious matters. The night before the wedding, I told my mother about it, as I knew I wasn't marrying her for her sake but rather for my own.

“Why would I marry a woman who wants something different from what I want, since we won't live together?” And with her blessing, what will I do? God, not others, is the one who benefits us. When my soon-to-be-departing mother selects a woman for me and passes away, will the girl treat me badly? he ended.
