"I'm currently single" - Shatta Wale speaks on his relationship

Dancehall legend Charles Nii Armah Mensah, best known by his stage name Shatta Wale, from Ghana, has shared his experiences with some of the challenges that come with being in the spotlight and how he manages them.

, who is well-known for his raw and sincere demeanor, stated in an exclusive interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) that he wants to be true and honest with people despite being well-known.

He stresses that he wants to feel normal when he's not on stage and that he can only experience that kind of freedom when he travels to countries like London because he's not allowed to roam about freely in Ghana.

“I think I'm brutally honest; I want to be honest with people; I want to be real with people,” Shatta added, drawing comparisons between his experiences as a public person in Ghana and the UK. I want to feel like a regular person when I'm not performing, and being in London is helping me do that since I can't go around Ghana.

The well-known musician largely revealed how, in an attempt to feel normal, he reacts harshly to criticism on social media because it makes him feel like he's on the “streets.”

“Sometimes I feel like I want to eat fufu in a chop bar or a public place, but I don't get that, and that's a huge problem for me.

“So that's why when people get at me on social media, I just go live and just speak to them like I'm on the street,” he said.
