In the 2020 Ghanaian general elections, Lydia Alhassan, the NPP’s candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, teamed up with actor Prince David Osei and several other artists to campaign against their colleague, John Dumelo.
At the time, Prince David Osei, Kalybos, Jeneral Ntatia, Bismark The Joke, and other celebrities were accused of betraying their friendship with John Dumelo in order to vigorously campaign against him, despite their protests that they were simply endorsing their preferred political party’s nominee.
Prince David Osei, however, has declared that he would not run against John Dumelo in the general election of 2024.
Speaking on Gh One TV’s “Gh Today” social-political show, the award-winning actor mentioned that even though he is still a stunch member of the NPP, in 2024, he will rather campaign for his friend and colleague, John Dumelo to snatch the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat from the hands of the NPP’s Lydia Alhassan.
When asked why the sudden change, Prince David Osei mentioned that the performance of Lydia Alhassan has been abysmal to say the least.
He stated that although he had hoped that she would act in the constituency’s and its electorates’ best interests, that had not been the case.
Prince David revealed that, despite the MP’s ability to provide the necessary support, he has been unable to even persuade her to help any of the students who work for her to gain power.
The “Last Night” actor continued, saying that in light of his disagreements with Madam Lydia Alhassan, he simply feels it is appropriate to run for office on behalf of his friend, who he thinks is more qualified to serve the constituency.
