The problem of rent is one that Ghanaian politician, businessman, and actor John Dumelo plans to advocate for in his upcoming rerun for a seat in the legislature.
Despite the fact that Ghana’s Rent Control Department has advised landlords to demand up to six months’ rent upfront, tenants have been required to pay one or two years’ rent in advance in order to reserve a space.
Many Ghanaians, particularly the younger generation that is just starting out in life, are finding this issue to be a major headache.
On January 1, 2024, John Dumelo, who appears to be sympathetic to the predicament of these young Ghanaians, promised to use his position.
“The first thing I will champion when I become member of parliament is the rent issue. Ghanaians must pay maximum 6 months rent advance for residential properties,” he tweeted.
