Australia actress Lillian Crombie dies aged 66

Elaine Crombie, the daughter of Australian actress , has announced her mother's death at the age of 66.

The epic movie Australia directed by Baz Luhrmann, which starred Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman, as well as the television series The Secret Life of Us, are what made Crombie most famous.

Elaine, an actress who co-starred with Elisabeth Moss in a number of TV shows and movies, revealed on Facebook that her mother had passed away.

“On behalf of myself, Andrew, and Michael, we would like to inform everyone that Mum has passed away,” she wrote.

‘Mum lived a very full, exciting life and in these last few years being home with her grandsons and her Mum that was the life for her.

‘Loving her grandsons and Mum and her fur grandson Bear that was her priority. Family.'

Elaine said she invited her mother's fans and loved ones to share their ‘thoughts and stories' before recounting her incredible life.

The Kiki and Kitty star continued: ‘From Belacalina to Umeewarra Mission to Port Pirie and into ballet shoes then to Adelaide, Sydney and beyond, she saw the big city lights of Studio 54 & Alvin Ailey!!!

‘Lily of the Valley danced around the world, acted on stages around the world, graced the big screen, the small screen and has definitely left an imprint in our lives.

‘Oh mum…my mummy. I love you xoxox I'll see you next time.'

Crombie grew up in Port Pirie, South Australia where she trained in classical ballet, before moving to Sydney on a dance scholarship at the age of 16.

After training in New York and at Australia's National Institute of Dramatic Art, she went on to become one of the country's leading performers of stage and screen after her break-out role in film Australia.

Her other credits include Mystery Road, Lucky Miles, Double Trouble and Ring of Scorpio.

Crombie also performed in multiple theatre productions with Belvoir St Theatre, Sydney Theatre Company, State Theatre Company of SA and at the Adelaide Festival.

She was a survivor of the Stolen Generation, who were the children of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent who were removed from their families by the Australian federal and state government agencies and church missions, under acts of their respective parliaments
