At the 66th Grammy Awards, Nigerian Afrobeats artists Burna Boy, Davido, Tems, Ayra Starr, Olamide, and Asake had a dismal showing as they were not among the ten winners across five categories.

The South African singer won the inaugural “Best African Music Performance” title with her 2023 song “Water,” defeating the Nigerian team.

The Grammy Premiere ceremony, which takes place prior to the main live television program and involves the awarding of hundreds of prizes, announced all the categories in which the Afrobeats singers competed.

Winner of the 2021 Best Global Album Shakti defeated Burna Boy and fellow countryman Davido in this year’s competition.

In the related Best Global Music Performance category, the pair was defeated by Indian composer Zakir Hussain for the Bela Fleck and Edger Meyer song “Pashto.”

Lil Durk and J Cole’s song “All My Life” ended Burna Boy’s chances of taking home any of the four awards that were up for grabs when it won the Grammy for Best Melodic Rap.
