Most Of Past Comedians Sold Themselves Cheaply – OB Amponsah Claims

OB Amponsah, a famous Ghanaian comedian, has said that some of his forefathers had very low expectations when it came to making money from their art.

Such individuals, he claims, have made it impossible for today’s acts to be well-paid by the major brands that typically book them for services.

“A few of our forefathers sold themselves short. I’m not going to list those names. When a corporation approaches either of us, the young comedians, for an offer, and we reveal our bid, they equate it to what our predecessors paid and tell us to lower it. They have set very low expectations, and despite our best attempts, we are unable to meet them. However, I believe we have been able to address this. In an interview with Zionfelix, he said, “Few brands are now agreeing to pay us extra, and that’s good news.”

OB, on the other hand, claimed that he acknowledges the motivations for the pioneer comedians’ acts to some degree, adding that:

“For people like David Oscar, Foster Romanus, and others, the fight was primarily about getting a foothold in the Ghanaian comedy industry, not about money. They laid the groundwork for us. We took over from there, and now we’re trying to turn it into a business.”

When asked if comedy is profitable in Ghana, he replied:

“There’s interest in it,” says the OB Amponsah. Don’t be fooled by the large sums of money. I would have made more money by now if it hadn’t been for the COVID-19.”
