“There’s No Proper Reggae-Dancehall Artiste In Ghana” – MUSIGA President (Video)
The acting president of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Bessa Simons, says there is no recording artiste in Ghana who can be called an original Reggae/Dancehall artiste.
According to him, all of the artists claiming to be at the top of the genre, such as Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, and Samini, are mostly involved in highlife music.
Mr Simons, speaking on Asempa FM's weekend entertainment programme Tête-à-Tête, stated that these artists are just imitating the style of reggae/dancehall performances but cannot be recognised as such.
“They're singing highlife,” says the MUSIGA boss. Any better musician will be able to tell you. Were they born in the Caribbean island of Jamaica? They're just wanting to be like the Jamaicans,” he explained.
