Court Orders Afia Schwarzenegger To Pay Ghc 60k And Sign A Bond Of Good Behaviour

In a current contempt case, the Tema High Court has fined socialite Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa, better known as Afia Schwarzenegger, GH60,000 (5,000 penalty units).

The court also fined socialite Chairman Wontumi GH 5,000 for making derogatory remarks about him. Bernard Antwi Boasiako is also known as Chairman Wontumi.

On December 1, 2022, Afia Schwarzenegger received a 10-day jail term for contempt of court.

On the day of the announcement, Afia Schwarzenegger, however, was not there.

She appeared on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, with the assistance of Adrian Duke Amaning, who brought a motion on notice for a sentence adjustment.

He asked the court to suspend the sentence, citing Order 50 Rule 4(1) and Rule 5 of the High Court (Civil Procedures) Rules, which deal with the suspension of an order and the discharge of a committed person, respectively.

Order 50 While Rule 5 (1) states that the court may discharge any person committed to prison for contempt of court, Rule 4 (1) states that the court that makes an order of committal may direct that the execution of the order of committal be suspended for such a period or on such other terms and conditions as it may specify.

Additionally, Mr. Amaning stated that his client had shown regret and had subsequently issued her apologies to the court.

On Tuesday, January 31, 2023, the court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Ankamah approved the defendant's request and changed the jail term to 5000 punishment units.

The court also required her to sign a 36-month “good behavior” bond. Additionally, she was told not to speak out publicly about the issue while the bail was pending.

“Any violation of the rules will result in her being brought back before the court,” the judge ordered.

The petitioner deserves a second shot, the court said, given that she has shown regret and apologized.
