“Many Players Of The Black Stars Don’t Understand The Significance Of AFCON” – Kwabena Yeboah

Many Black Stars players do not completely understand the significance of competing in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), according to ace sports broadcaster Kwabena Yeboah.

Ghana’s poor showing in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, particularly in light of their impressive World Cup qualifying campaign, caused Kwabena Yeboah’s comments.

He said that gamers who were born outside of the continent or who have lived outside of it for most of their lives are especially affected by the separation.

“It’s difficult for me to say this, but quite a number of our players do not even understand the importance of the Africa Cup of Nations. I won’t mention names, but several players born abroad or those who have stayed out for a long time don’t fully understand how crucial the Cup of Nations is to us Africans. However, they understand the significance of the World Cup,” he said on Metro TV in a conversation with Michael Kofi Oduro.

He cited Ghana’s match against Niger as an example, where up to eight key players withdrew from the team, offering various reasons for their absence.
