Didier Drogba Reacts To Rumors Of Converting To Islam
Didier Drogba spent quality time with some Muslim friends and brothers during a trip to his native Ivory Coast. Photos were taken, and the media focused on a scene in which Drogba extended his hands like Muslims do when praying.
After pictures of Didier Drogba with the Muslim cleric surfaced, rumors that the legendary Chelsea player had converted to Islam quickly spread over social media.
Throughout his career as a professional football player, Drogba was well known for being a devout Christian, and the Ivorian never discussed giving up his faith.
The first person to spread the news was Texas-based Dr. Mohamed Salah, who identifies as an Islamic preacher and has more than a million fans on his official Facebook page.
He posted photos of Drogba raising his hands in prayer and wrote in the caption, “There is rumor Drogba has converted to Islam.”
Didier Drogba wasted no time in responding to the accusations once the rumors began to circulate on social media.
Drogba said on Twitter that he hadn't changed his faith and that the pictures were of him paying a visit to his Muslim brothers out of respect for them.
He said:
This story is going viral but I haven't changed religion. This was just me paying respect to my Muslim brothers i was visiting in my village. A moment of togetherness. Much love and blessings to all
