Bob Marley’s Grandson, Jo Mersa Marley Dies At Age 31
The reggae superstar Bob Marley’s grandson, Joseph Mersa Marley, son of musician Stephen Marley, has passed away. He was 31.
The information was confirmed to Rolling Stone on December 27 by a spokesperson for the late reggae musician. At this time, it’s unknown exactly what caused the fatality.
On March 12, 1991, Joseph Marley was born in Kingston, Jamaica. In 2010, he made his recording debut with “My Girl,” a song he co-wrote with his cousin Daniel Bambaata Marley.
He published “Bad So” in 2012; it later appeared on his 2014 EP, “Comfortable.” In 2021, he would release his self-titled debut album.
Marley reflected on his upbringing in a musical family in a Rolling Stone interview, stating, “Watching those individuals come around to the house and how the whole creative process would transpire was a really wonderful thing.” When I got home, I would try to finish my homework, but I would always get sidetracked and go over to the studio. You would constantly want to enter and exit to check on what was happening.
Jo Mersa was determined to carve his own path in the music business despite the fact that his grandfather was famous.
“I am a member of the new generation of Marleys, but I am also still exploring,” he continued.
