Creating Fanbase Is Really Killing The Industry – Knii Lante
The division of fans is destroying the Ghanaian music business rather than fostering its growth, according to an award-winning singer and medical professional from Ghana who recently spoke on Asaase Radio.
Knii Lante, who has been outspoken on issues relating to the development of the music industry, stated that after making some critical observations, he believes that the fans who support one side and never want to see the other advance are a major obstacle keeping Ghanaian music from becoming more popular than it is.
He claims that when he tweeted to congratulate Sarkodie on his appearance in the version of Bob Marley’s “Stir It Up,” the replies were sad. “I just went to Twitter to thank Sarkodie for including Chale and us (Ghana)! The response was extreme, and it sparked a huge discussion. I mean, a bunch of people would show up and say they hadn’t seen what Sarkodie had done, and then someone else would add their two cents.
Knii said, “I don’t know how these splits into groups of fans and nationalities are benefiting us since we have taken it so seriously that supporters of Artiste A will not be tolerant to listen to Artiste B, and vice versa.”
“With this thing, we’re doing, we’re eliminating our appeal to the global music business.”
But according to Knii Lante, the issue may be resolved by the entertainment experts and other gatekeepers of the music business. Instead of pitting artists against one another, he believes, they should promote togetherness, power, and oneness.
