NPP will go into opposition if I’m not involved in their campaign – Kennedy Agyapong

Kennedy Agyapong, Aspiring flagbearer of the governing of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has vehemently asserted that he is the only one among the 10 candidates who can keep the current party in power.

“If you bring one thousand NPP people and they talk, no Ghanaian will listen to them except I am involved. So I am not afraid of contesting with any aspirant,” he declared.

According to him, “Any election that I don't get involved it means we will go to opposition and that should remind them, especially those who are playing dirty games and all sorts of things against me”.

This was said in a media interview by Mr. Ohene Agyapong, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, who invaded the Special Delegates Conference being held at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) Campus.

He stated that “at least, I will get 80% of the votes cast in my home region,  and there's no doubt about it so be rest assured because NPP delegates are going to honour me with my hard work and commitment to the region”.

“I have always taken good care of the region. I know they will look at my commitment in the region and reward me.  And the moment I get the massive vote in my home region and other regions, it means I am within the five candidates” he said.

He continued: “I am going to get massive votes from Central Region and there is no doubt about it no matter the amount they give them, no matter the intermediation, they have a conscience and they know that this is the man.”

Mr Agyapong who is vying for the presidential flagbearer slot is the only one from the Central Region among the 10 aspirants contesting for the position.

 “All the delegates can confirm what I have done for this region. So they think this is the time also to reward me. I am not going to create any confusion here and I will make sure we are one party. And I will support anybody who wins.  We all will come together and face the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC),” he added.

“We are all going to be vigilant and we make sure things are done properly. So far so good, especially the elections committee and national executive have done marvellous work. I must admit whatever petition we gave them they granted all of them for the sake of peace and unity” he added.

The Special Delegates Conference is currently underway in all sixteen regions to reduce the number of aspirants to the NPP flagbearer position from 10 to five. Mr Agyapong is expected to be part of the five that will contest in the National Delegates Conference scheduled for November 4, 2023.
