Nicholas Clayton Mullens is an American football quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, he grew up in Hoover, Alabama, and is the grandson of Ernie Tabor, who played in the Philadelphia Phillies minor league system in the 1950s.
Mullens played college football for the Southern Miss Golden Eagles, where he surpassed Brett Favre’s single-season school records for passing yardage and touchdown passes. He was signed by the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of college and has played in the NFL for the Cleveland Browns leagues.
In 2016, Mullens made 11 starts and completed 243 of 384 attempts for 3,272 yards and 24 touchdowns, averaging 297.5 passing yards per game. In May 2017, he signed a contract with the San Francisco 49ers and was ranked as the fourth backup quarterback going into training camp.
He was Jimmy Garoppolo’s backup in 2019 and signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020. In 2021, he signed a contract with the Cleveland Browns and was selected to start at quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022.
