KETU SOUTH CONSTITUENCY DELEGATES PARLIAMENTARY RACE: MAMA DZIFA ABLA GOMASHIE, FOGA NUKUNU, TEACHER JOSEPH NYAVI, CAROLINA KUDAH PARKER & NICHOLAS EZO WOCLACHIE THE MOST POPULAR ASPIRANTS?

INTRODUCTION

“Ketu south constituency is a constituency that is very dear to NDC – Former President John Dramani Mahama.”(2016).

Ketu South is one of the 18 constituencies in the Volta region. It spreads over a land area of 1,130sq km in the south/eastern part of the region. The municipality is bordered to the North by the Ketu North Municipal, to the south by the Gulf of Guinea. East by the Republic of Togo, and to the West by Keta Municipal.

By its strategic location, a common border with the republic of Togo, the municipality serves as the Eastern Gateway to Ghana where continuous cross- border trading activities occur.

The scorpion research team which has received tacit approbation from the suzerainty of the NDC party has once again had a “rendezvous” with delegates who will exercise their vote to choose a replacement to Hon. Fifi Fiavi Franklin Kwetey. The constituency has five traditional zones:

1. *AFLAO URBAN*

2. *AFLAO WEGO*

3. *SOMEY FUGO*

4. *SOMEY WEGO*

5. *KLIKOR*

Hon. Fifi Fiavi Franklin Kwetey who has decided to hang his parliamentary gloves based on principle, has further institutionalised the second term ceiling point for any MP of Ketu South by not contesting for a third term. Despite the gallimaufry of opinions about his leadership, Fifi Kwetey is arguably the most successful MP the constituency has ever had.

He has given meaning to good governance through the provision of social infrastructure. His Spartan discipline has made him an avatar of simulacrum.

The Political Paracelsus who is yet to be seen supporting an aspirant has promised to support anybody who receive the benison of God and the votes of the delegates.

The scorpion research team which is an independent pro NDC research think tank whose works have received loud applauses by helping aspirants identify their strongholds and weakholds and also helped voters to make the right decision, has once again completed its second phase of its works in ketu south constituency delegates research.

“Delegates were asked to choose five of their preferred parliamentary aspirants.”

*METHODOLOGY*

The targets of the scorpion research team is to conduct series of research in each of the constituencies in the Volta region.

The survey adopted the descriptive research design which involves the gathering of data that describe events and then organises, tabulates, depicts, and describes the data collection (Glass & Hopkins, 1984)

On data need and sources, the survey employed the use of questionnaire in obtaining primary data from the public.

The survey sampled from the population in the constituency. That is, all the 208 branches in the constituency were sampled. Five delegates were chosen at random as respondents given a total sample size of 1040.

OBSERVATIONS

1. Mama Dzifa Abla Gomachie

From our research hon. Gomashie had 76% popularity rate to establish herself as the most popular and favourite of the delegates. Our previous work has indeed established a positive correlation between the general public and the delegates or branch executives. She is very popular in four of the zones but has failed to totally win the hearts of *AFLAO WEGO*

We have also observed that *SOMEY FUGO* is yearning for a female MP, hence the good performance of MAMA GOMASHIE in the Zone.

2. Foga Nukunu

The findings revealed that foga is the biggest threat to Mama Gomashie in this race. Having had the second highest rate of popularity test in the fist survey, foga continues to put up good showings among delegates.

From the results he obtained 69% to be the second most popular aspirant among the delegates. Hugely popular among the delegates of Aflao WEGO.But he has not shown that mettle in somey fugo

3. Teacher Joseph NYAVI

The research shows that Teacher Nyavi has firmly showed that he is indeed a third force in this parliamentary race. Having obtained the same position in the previous survey, he seems to be fairly popular among the delegates. His performance among the delegates has shown an improvement from the previous research.

He is fairly popular in Aflao wego & aflao urban but not very popular in somey fugo

His popularity rate from the research is 57%.

4. Carolina Kudah Parker

Our research shows that Carolina had 47% popularity rate. Again she seems to be the fourth most popular aspirant in this competition. Her performance in *Somey Fugo & Somey Wego* Makes her a strong force to reckon with.

However her performance in *aflao urban & aflao wego* is not too impressive.

5. Nicholas Ezo Woclachie

From the research Nicholas had 29% popularity rate test in our survey. This performance is a much improved than the previous research.

His resurgence from recumbency has really bear fruits. He has visited a lot of branches during our survey hence his fantabulous performance.

Good showings among the delegates in *somey wego & klikor* showed that he is gaining grounds ahead of nominations and filings.

6. Elolo KELI White, Maxwell Kwashie, Johnson Kporha, Kafui Nyasorgbor, Benedictus Kwaku Amedume, Bill Godson Ocloo, & Famous Kwadugah

The performances of the aforementioned names seem not to be very impressive. Our research showed that some of them are yet to visit delegates in their branches.

Their performances have revealed their unpopularity among the delegates. This happens to cut across the general feelings among the general public. Their performances in the previous research seems to be the same as the later one.

RECOMMENDATIONS

1. Mama Dzifa Abla Gomashie

The research showed that she is the woman to beat in this contest. She has maintained her popularity among the general public and the delegates. However she has failed to win a commanding trust and popularity among the delegates. Foga is lurking around to snatch victory from her which she must be weary off.

Her visions and aspirations for the job must offer hope for the electorates. Complacency at this stage will be calamitous.

*Foga & Teacher Nyavi* can’t be glossed over. A continues contact and sell of manifestos to the delegates can help maintain the slim margin she is currently enjoying now.

We also recommend that mama exploits the sentiments and wish of the delegates of *somey fugo* which is that they favour a female candidate to a male candidate.

She must also be enamored about the not too impressive performance in *aflao wego* which is arguably her *”weakhold”*

2. Foga Nukunu

Our research team found out that he is the second man to beat in this contest. He has showed mettle and rigours in this contest. The man of the youth. Strong palisade awaits him in *aflao urban & aflao wego* .

His mantra of homeboy seems to be resonating with a significant number of youths in the constituency. Though his campaign strategy is devoid of opulence, we recommend he shows his resourcefulness.

Somey Fugo, Somey Wego & Klikor continue to be so mountainous for him to climb as showed in the general public survey. This result has shown a similar pattern.

We are therefore recommending that team foga finds a lethal campaign strategy to win over delegates from these zones.

Team foga must also be punctilious about the threats emanating from team Nyavi.

3. Teacher Joseph Nyavi

Our flawless research showed that team Nyavi continues to occupy the third position. He is the third man to beat in this contest.

His performance among delegates is not really bad. Our research found out that his team did not touch base in some zones before this survey was conducted.

In our previous research we found out that his popularity was much rooted in aflao urban. But this research has proved to team nyavi an interesting result.

We recommend that team nyavi finds a new strategy to win back the confidence and trust of aflao urban.

We also recommend that a quick attention be paid to delegates from *somey fugo, somey wego & klikor* for a better performance in our next survey.

4. Carolina kudah parker

Arguably team Carolina continues to enjoy the fourth spot in our ongoing survey. Her campaign seems to be jolted by impecuniosity.

Her incipient vigour seems to have been dissipated. The team found out that her campaign machinery is on a vacation.

Her performances in some zones have proven that with the right strategy team Carolina can be a strong force to reckon with.

The team is therefore recommending that team Carolina should resume campaigning immediately especially in aflao urban,& aflao wego

We also recommend that she pays special attention to somey fugo which seems to favour a female candidate.

5. Nicholas Ezo Woclachie

Team Ezo has really surprised the researchers in this particular survey. In our previous research team Ezo performed dismally. Having oiled his campaign machinery, team Ezo became the fifth preferred aspirant for this competition.

Though plagued with penury, his political pronounciamento seems to percolate down with the delegates hence his surprising resurgence.

We recommend that he sticks to this game plan.

We also recommend that he raises more resources so that he can reach all delegates before the election day is due.

6. *Elolo Keli White, Maxwell Kwashie, Johnson Kporha, Kafui Nyasorgbor, Benedictus kwaku Amedume,Bill Godson Ocloo & Famous Kuadugah*

“Faith without works is dead says the holy book.”(James 2:17)

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.(Philippines 4:13)

For my thoughts are not your thoughts neither are my ways your ways as the heavens are higher than your ways so are my thoughts higher than your ways.(Isaiah 55:8-9)

The above mentioned names have not showed their mettle and resolve to win this election. As we say in local parlance, they are not on the ground.

They seems not to have any clue about the upcoming elections. Most of them are yet to meet any of the delegates. Clearly they seems to be panting for financial breathe.

Our research team found out that most delegates are oblivious of their intentions to contest.

They have no strongholds. Their campaign strategy is amorphous. They are not the favorites of the delegates.

The team is therefore recommending that they consider a self introspection. They should listen to themselves.

If at all they still believe they can fight back then we recommend an aggressive publicity and sell out of campaign manifesto.

Generally we recommend all the aspirants to start an aggressive campaign as they wait for the announcement of the opening of nominations.

We also recommend that due to the vast nature of the constituency, aspirants should embark on a fundraising activities for a successful campaign.

CONCLUSIONS

The delegates research has been a very torrent research for the researchers. Some of the researchers became logy due to the enormity of the works.

Lack of adequate personnel for the data collections also hampered the smooth conduct of this thorough research.

Sponsorship for the research is becoming a veritable bugaboo. Only a few of the aspirants assisted us financially in this exercise.

In a nutshell it was a successful exercise though the team had some difficulties in engaging some delegates who were nonchalant and tepid about the whole exercise. Some of them completely refused to cooperate with the researchers.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT

We very much want to faithfully acknowledge the following;

1. Our families

2. The aspirants

3. The public

4. The constituency executives

5. Ardent readers

6. The good people of Ghana.
