Anybody Who Says I Didn’t Originate HipLife Is A Liar – Reggie Rockstone (Video)

Reggie Rockstone is once again establishing himself as the real originator of Hip Life.

Though the iconic Ghanaian rapper has been credited with fusing Hip Hop and High Life to establish the phenomenon, renowned music producers such as Zapp Mallet and Panji Anoff have questioned claims of Reggie Rockstone becoming the creator of Hip Life.

Zapp Mallet said in 2015, “when Reggie Rockstone came down from the UK, he came with his wife and they all had the hip-hop movement that was sweeping all over the globe as it was at the time and some of us felt that we should go to our origin, our roots and do something Ghanaian, more African and blend hip-hop with our identities.”

“An brand that would project the Ghanaian world, so Michael Kuku, who was an instrumentalist at the time, and I agreed to call that class of music hip-life, and it succeeded,” the ace record producer continued, but his remark irritated Reggie Rockstone, who fired him and later apologized.

The topic came up again during the “Maka Maka” rapper's interview with Afrobeats Kween, a New York-based event organizer and media personality, for Glitteratieent, where Reggie Rockstone said that someone who claims he didn't invent hip hop is a liar.

“They're lying because they know it, if I wasn't here live looking fine, they'd definitely cheat about me… there's nobody out here that doesn't know Reggie Rockstone set it up, I didn't just set it up, I'm still here doing things,” he said.

The father of four stressed “My mother used to say that even though you didn't produce Hip Life, you must have become the founder of Hip Life and no one put in as much effort as I did. They will never tell you where they learned the two words, Hip Life, because they only heard them in one tune, “Tsoo Boi.” Tsoo Boi will be the first time you hear those two words “..
