“I Hate Comparism, It Brings Disrespect” – Gyakie
Gyakie, named Jackeline Acheampong, the Ghanaian Afrobeat artiste, has expressed his discontent with how she is compared to other performers in the Ghanaian music business, calling it “disrespectful.”
Some fans on social media have made similarities between Gyakie and Becca, Adina, Cina Soul, and Efya since she rose to fame with her music, and she believes it is both disrespectful and useless to compare singers.
Gyakie stated in an interview with AJ Sarpong on Citi FM that she no longer wants to be compared to other singers because comparison degrades one's work, and that Ghanaians should support all artists, new and old because comparison breeds hatred among musicians.
“Comparisons aren't really useful. When I'm compared to other vocalists, I don't enjoy it because it makes me feel degraded. “I believe we should support all artists rather than pitting them against one another,” she stated.
Gyakie also shared a story of a bad comment made by a critic on social media that impacted her like a ton of bricks. The critic, she claims, branded her music as “coincidental” and “hinged.” Gyakie bemoaned that such unpleasant remarks have tamed her spirit, despite the fact that she understands that not everyone would enjoy her music.
