Great Ampong, the veteran gospel artist, has cited difficult times as the cause of his extended departure from the Ghanaian music industry.

He claims that his inability to make music in recent years is primarily due to financial problems.

He stated that money is everything in the music business and that no musician can succeed for very long without it when Nyansa Boakwa was a guest on Happy FM’s “Obra Yi” episode of the “Nsem Pii” show.

I haven’t put out a song in the last seven years because of money, which is a contributing element. You currently spend $700 million on a song. “The only money we had was for lodging and food; you can’t record a song in a studio with that,” he said.

“The days when we were marketing music are gone because of modernization; you can’t sell CDs anymore, so how can you compensate the person assisting you?” he said.

Although the sale of hard drives and flash drives has been discontinued due to modernity, he said that “there is no producer who would spend money on a musician and hope to gain profit through online sales, and the internet portals don’t collect your money.”

He insisted that as long as there was honesty, he would be open to working with other gospel musicians.

“I would comply if the guy came on good terms because so many people have taken advantage of me,” he said.
