I Won the 2019 VGMA Artiste Of The Year, I’m Just Waiting To Recieve The Award – Stonebwoy

Despite being dismissed by Charterhouse and the VGMA board for pulling a pistol on stage, Stonebwoy is adamant that he won the prestigious Artist of the Year award at the 2019 VGMAs.

While Stonebwoy was on stage with his crew to accept his award for Reggae/Dancehall Artist of the Year at the 20th VGMAs, Shatta Wale and his lads were seen rushing fiercely towards the platform. This led to a close call between Stonebwoy and his then-rival.

The unfortunate incident that marred the 20th celebrations of the award was condemned by the general public, and the two were subsequently picked up by the police after the awards ceremony.

The VGMA board unanimously decided not to give the overall AOTY to any of the nominated artists at the conclusion of the event, and as a result, they suspended Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy for a number of years.

The Gidigba hitmaker, who was a nominee for Artiste of the Year at the 2023 VGMAs, discussed the sad situation 3 years after it occurred in an interview on TV3 New Day. He recognized his prior successes.

“Not to forget that I've been here before, I won AOTY in 2015 and went on to win the BET Awards and I think that I won it in 2019, and maybe one day they are going to hand it over because there was a win,” Stonebwoy added.
