“I Will Not Perform At The National Theatre Again” – Kojo Antwi Explains
In a recent interview with Onua TV, renowned Ghanaian highlife musician and composer Julius Kojo Antwi, better known by his stage name Kojo Antwi, promised never to perform on the National Theatre stage ever again.
The “Medofo Pa” hitmaker claimed in an interview with Nana Adwoa Annan that, although having been a great match for his early career, the National Theatre no longer fits with his creative goals.
He went into detail about how the multipurpose space has not lived up to the standards of a theater, stressing how hard it is becoming for those in charge to keep it maintained. The numerously honored crooner went on to claim that the venue has gotten so bad that he would never be able to perform there.
“It's not quite as good as a theater. As the artist that I am, it has become harder for people in charge of the theater to maintain the space. I came to see that the location wasn't supporting me. An artist is not a part of the hall that the location has evolved into,” he remarked.
More than anything, Kojo Antwi remembered the small-theater beauty of his early days at the National Theatre, but he also stressed that his development as an actor required a larger stage.
