I have never been moved by negative criticism – Sarkodie reveals

Sarkodie,Ghana's most celebrated rapper has said he had never allowed his career to be swayed by negative criticisms and public opinions.
 
In a live Instagram chat with Nigeria's rap heavyweight MI on Saturday, Sarkodie revealed that he had chosen to ignore the steady flow of personal opinions and industrial criticisms aimed at throwing him off his track.

“From the start, I just developed a strategy to critics. I do what I feel. If I feel like it am going to do it and I have not been proven wrong for a long time, so it's going to be very hard for an article to change my view”, he said.

Some critics had lurched at the rapper for delivering solely in his native Twi language, but have been challenged by his continuous hold on to hip-hop's highest seat in the country.

MI also mentioned some attempts by pundits to influence his work and said he had always trusted his heart to lead him.

“If you do what your heart tells you to do, at least you can walk away from the game”, he said.

The conversation revealed that the rappers who are expected to battle each other for continental rap supremacy, have some works together in the making.

Sarkodie and fellow Ghanaian rapper EL are also working on reintroducing the flavor of the once-popular Azonto genre into the music scene in the Country and had released a song titled “Revival” to set it off.

The rapper remains in lockdown in the USA where he had visited for a vacation with his family prior to the imposition of restrictions due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
