“I Struggled To Complete University” – Fireboy DML Recounts
Adedamola Adefolahan, better known as Fireboy DML, the Nigerian singer, has spoken out for the first time about the difficulties he faced as a student who had developed a passion for music but had to balance it with a university education.
“Finishing school was a struggle,” says the songwriter, who is signed to Olamide's YBNL record label.
In a recent interview with Chude, he stated the following.
During his time at Obafemi Awolowo University, Fireboy claims he was a brilliant student torn between schooling and music (OAU).
Due to a lack of proper planning and time management, Fireboy's studies suffered, and he was forced to repeat a year.
It was a challenge to finish school. It was a trying period for me. I had an extra year, but I completed my studies. To be honest, I couldn't wait to graduate from school since I knew I wouldn't be able to return home after this. Fireboy, who was stationed in Abeokuta at the time, claimed, “I was heading directly to Lagos.”
“There was a day when my father came to my school,” he added. Oh, my God! Your father came to school the last year. It felt as if he was taking my hand and saying, “Let's go to your lecturer's office,” as if I were in secondary school. It was quite humiliating, and those were particularly trying days for me.
