HRRG takes kidnap sensitization program to Tower Preparatory & JHS School
Over 400 pupils of the Tower Preparatory and Junior High School(JHS) in Accra have been equipped with adequate knowledge, information and techniques aimed at outsmarting the tricks of kidnappers in the country.
The participants, during the early hours of Wednesday March 27, 2019 were vigorously sensitized on the modus operandi, tactics and pranks employed by kidnappers to lure their unsuspecting targets who are mostly young girls.
They were also armed to the teeth with guidelines on how to outwit wiles of the so-called kidnappers whenever they come any close to them.
The sensitization exercise was conducted by a team of Human Right Reporters Ghana(HRRG), a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), committed to defending and protecting the freedom and fundamental rights of people in Ghana and beyond.
According to HRRG's Executive Director, Mr. Joseph Wemakor, the sensitization exercise forms part of his outfit's project which seeks to help demystify the burgeoning phenomenon of kidnapping issues which has become a threat to the lives of people in the country in recent times.
He added that apart from kidnapping phenomenon, Teenage Pregnancy and Tramadol abuse are equally two areas of major concern to the organization which it'll be engaging students on to meet its objectives.
Ghana has been battling with the worrying activities of some miscreants who are busily engaged in abduction of young girls and children, either for a ransom or other reasons best known to them.
The issue of kidnapping has never been part of the nation's history in the past. But until recently, it has developed and suddenly escalated into a major canker waiting to be addressed.
The bizarre disappearance of three (3) girls from the Western Region namely Priscilla Blessing Bentum, Ruth Love Quayson and Priscilla Koranteng without a trace for months still remain a mystery to unravel.
It upon this backdrop, the Human Rights Reporters Ghana has risen up to the task to help organize sensitization exercises in schools and strongly educate students on tricks of the kidnappers to prevent them from falling victims to kidnappers.
The Tower Preparatory and Junior High School was established in 1997 as a Private Limited Liability Educational Institute by Mr. Francis Dogbatse, Pre-School, Primary and JHS to selflessly groom students and instill in them Christian values and principles to achieve academic and moral excellence, gain self-confidence among others.
The school which currently boasts of over 400 students' populations, forty-one (41) teaching and non-teaching staffs is rated as one of the best private schools within the Accra metropolis.
Headmaster of the School, Mr. Marvin Owusu Boateng in an interview lauded the efforts of the Human Rights Reporters Ghana for the gesture, adding, “I see what you come to do as compliment to what we have already initiated. I think more of such programs should be organized for the students”.
