“I Slept Under Bridges When I First Came To Accra” – Kumerican Rapper, Kweku Darlington Discloses
Fast-rising Ghanaian rapper, Kweku Darlington has revealed a heartbreaking narrative about his early struggles in the music industry.
Kweku Darlington said he arrived in Accra as a stranger in pursuit of his goal of being a great artist on United Showbiz on Saturday.
“I left home because my father was under a lot of strain to care for my other three siblings. As a result, despite knowing no one in Accra, I left Kumasi for Accra.
“Until one day, a Mallam agreed to take me home and stay with him, I usually slept near VIP Circle Station and beneath bridges. I never cried throughout that period, but I feel it strengthened me to follow my dream,” he explained.
When asked by host Abeiku Santana how he got his first hit song, Kweku Darlington responded, “So I met a music distributor named Kwame Baah one Facebook.” He invited me to come home, and we spoke about how I might improve my job.
“I entered my first music competition, Mentor, and despite my early eviction, I began to make progress, and Kwame Baah has been promoting my project, and fortunately for me, I received my first hit song.”
Nigerian rapper MI Abaga, Obrafour, and Okyeame Kwame, among others, have all influenced Kweku Darlington's musical development.
