Majid Adamu, a young resident of Nima-Maamobi escapes death after being caught with alleged gay partner

Trouble brewed and luck eluded Majid Adamu, who has been chased out of his neighbourhood in Nima, Accra, after allegedly being caught in the act with an alleged gay partner.

Homosexuality is abhorred and frowned upon in a strict Muslim-dominated community, with dire consequences for offenders.

Adamu who was being strictly monitored by the youth in his community entertained a male friend who visited him one day.

The youth suspicious of his character angrily stormed his house with the accusation that the visitor was his gay partner.

The two were also accused of fondling each other before a confrontation broke out.

Upon Visiting the community (Nima), I spoke to some youth of the area and one Razak said to me this was not the first time they caught him and they thought after what happened to him and his first gay partner, he would stop.

In the ensuing scuffle, Adamu managed to escape, running away for his dear life, and hasn't returned to his house or the community since.

Luck, however, wasn't on the side of his alleged partner who didn't know the neighbourhood so well to also run, he was apprehended and beaten like a thief, his clothes torn into shreds before being let go when he could barely walk.

Seeing his father anger and nothing can stop Alhaji Adamu from killing his own son if he happens to be in front of him.

‘Walahi (I swear), I will kill him myself. What shame he has brought to the religion and the family! I am one of the opinion leaders who preaches against all this but today, my son has brought shame to my name and I can't face the community. I swear in Allah's name, I will kill him myself. I'd rather go to jail than to welcome him into this house, this family and this community', the father added.

Adamu whose whereabouts are unknown, would be severely dealt with if caught or identified within his area.

For fear of being victimized, he may never come back to his own community again.
