Dede Ayew Sets New Black Stars Record
The Blackstars captain, Andre Morgan Dede Ayew, has surpassed all other Blackstars players in terms of appearances, shattering a global record.
In a 2-0 victory over Switzerland at a pre-World Cup friendly played in Abu Dhabi, Andre Ayew recently passed 110 appearances, becoming Ghana's most-capped player.
He reached Asamoah Gyan's record of 109 appearances in September when he came in as a substitute against Nicaragua, but he started against Switzerland and played wonderfully in what was a record-breaking game for him.
Dede made his senior national team debut against Senegal on August 21, 2007, while playing under coach Claud Le Roy.
On January 19, 2010, Andre Ayew scored his first goal for the Black Stars against Burkina Faso at the AFCON tournament. It was far more significant since Ghana prevailed.
He took over as captain of the Black Stars from Asamoah Gyan on May 24 under head coach Kwesi Appiah. He led his squad as captain at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.
