Ghanaian singer DJ Azonto expressed dissatisfaction at receiving a nomination for just one category after submitting applications for six.

When the Vodafone Ghana Music Award () organizers announced the nominees for each category, DJ Azonto boasted about winning the majority of the categories because he worked hard in 2022–2023.

“I filed for Artiste of the Year, New Artiste of the Year, Best Songwriter, Hiplife Song of the Year, Vodafone Most Popular Song of the Year, and Best Afropop Song,” he said.

DJ Azonto, however, had just one nomination after Charter House, the yearly 's organizers, announced the candidates for the 2023 edition. The nominations announced by Charterhouse appear to have upset the artists.

Shortly before the announcement of the VGMA nominees, the “Fa No Fom” hitmaker admitted that his teammates teased him after he announced his candidacy for Best Songwriter of the Year. DJ Azonto was nominated for Best New Artist of the Year when the candidates were announced, though.
