Burna Boy, Davido and Wizkid rated as most popular musicians in West Africa; no Ghanaian artist listed
In recent years, a number of West African musicians have received international attention, which has helped to grow the continent’s music scene.
Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid have established themselves as the continent’s most well-known and influential musicians.
According to a recent rating by Congo to Global, a platform that celebrates and promotes Pan-African history and African pop culture, Nigerian musicians Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid are among the most well-known artists in West Africa.
Surprisingly, there was not a single Ghanaian artist among the most popular artists in West Africa.
Born Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, Burna Boy has solidified his position as one of Africa’s top music exporters. Burna Boy’s distinct fusion of dancehall, reggae, and Afrobeat sounds has enthralled fans all over the world.
His albums “Twice as Tall” and “African Giant” have won him numerous accolades, including a Grammy for Best Global Music Album. They have also garnered positive reviews from critics.
Burna Boy recently received four nominations at the 66th Grammy Awards.
In the West African music industry, Davido, real name David Adedeji Adeleke, is another formidable force. Davido, one of the most popular musicians in Nigeria, has constantly produced hits and sold-out shows both domestically and internationally.
Due to his contagious enthusiasm, catchy songs, and partnerships with foreign performers, he has developed a huge and devoted fan base both home and abroad.
Davido received his first Grammy nomination at the just ended 66th Grammy Awards.
Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, better known by his stage name Wizkid, is frequently described as Nigeria’s largest music export. In the worldwide music industry as well as in Africa, Wizkid has become a household name because of his soft voice and genre-defying style.
His partnerships with well-known musicians like Justin Bieber, Beyoncé, and Drake have strengthened his status as a global superstar.
All over the world, these artistes have not gained popularity just because of their music but also for their advocacy for social change. They have advocated for end to corruption, police brutality, human trafficking and empowered the youth mostly in Nigeria.
