Okyeame Kwame Explains Why He Don’t Do Commercial Music Anymore
On The Day Show, Okyeame Kwame talked about his musical career with Berla Mundi. He discusses retaining relevance while switching to sounds that are more genuine.
After 25 years of creating music, Okyeame Kwame has experienced some “aha” moments. One such moment was when he realized that his music needed to change its emphasis in order to have an influence on his surroundings.
“When I was a lot younger, I struggled with deciding what kind of music to create since either I made music that people liked or I got compensated for it. Or I might come up with something on my own that folks would enjoy or not.
However, I frequently decide to create music that listeners would enjoy, which generally entails producing songs that sound like current successes, Anything that will be played by DJs, Okyeame Kwame revealed.
Okyeame Kwame noted that producing indigenous music did not entail a stop to revenue sources as one of Ghana's highlife productions attained legendary status. He says that once people can relate to your music, they will embrace it and enjoy it.
But as I got older, I realized that being true to your feelings and emotions and honest with yourself is the simplest way to live. “As a musician, I now want to produce music that reflects my surroundings,” concluded Okyeame Kwame.
