Earlier today, through the bank's verified twitter page, the bank of Ghana warned citizens of the states not to price, advertise, receive, and/or make payments for goods and services in foreign currency in Ghana.
According to the official statements, such violations are punishable by a fine of up to 700 penalty units or a term of imprisonment of no more than 18 months, or both, on summary conviction.
Reacting to the statement, Ghanaian actress, Lydia Forson, quoted a reply to the tweet asking the Bank of Ghana to start this exercise from the top. She revealed that billboards in town were advertising for ouses in dollars. She needed to tell the Bank of Ghana that the guilty parites are right before them, so they should go for them.
In her own words, she wrote;
Start with the TOP and the bottom will follow. All over town the billboards are there advertising houses in dollars, you don't need us to point you to the guilty party, they're in your face everyday!!
