Davido’s ‘Timeless’ becomes first African album to top US iTunes chart
With his new album ‘Timeless,' Nigerian Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, aka Davido, has set an African record on the US iTunes Albums Chart.
This is after the album topped the chart on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, becoming the first African album to do so in the world's largest music market.
Recall that Davido dropped his fourth studio album ‘Timeless' on March 31, 2023, with guest appearances from Nigerian artists such as Asake, Fave, The Cavemen, DMW's latest additions, Morravey and Logos Olori as well as Grammy-award-winning Beninese singer Angelique Kidjo, British rapper Skepta, South African music producer/DJ Musa Keys, Jamaican dancehall/reggae singer Dexta Daps, and South African rapper, Focalistic.
According to DAILY POST, despite an initial partial leak, Davido's ‘Timeless' album broke several records, including the highest charting album by an African artist on Apple Music in the United States (it peaked at Number 2) and the most album first-day streams in Audiomack history.
The 17-track album was also the first and only afrobeats album to have all of its tracks debut in the top 100 of the Apple Music top songs chart in the United Kingdom.
Following the album's release, global streaming giant Spotify stated that Davido's music is most popular in the United Kingdom, Canada, France, and Nigeria.
