Rocky Dawuni Reveals Why Ghanaian Musicians Are Not Normally Nominated For Grammys
According to Ghanaian musician Rocky Dawuni, the lack of originality is the main reason why the majority of musicians in Ghana are unable to succeed in the global music scene.
As per Rocky Dawuni, the nation is rife with musicians who are content to copy the creations of other artists because they are lazy and lack the motivation to be original.
“When making music, you don't have to do it the same way as someone else or copy what they do.” According to Rocky Dawuni, “musicians who do that can't make it internationally.”
He said that the reason he consistently received Grammy nominations was because he never copied what others were doing; until some Ghanaians figure out how to do the same, they will continue to be the local favorites.
“My music is classified as afro-roots since it is not strictly reggae.” I combine highlife, afrobeat, and other styles to create it. Therefore, if you are performing music, you are not required to imitate or replicate anyone else. “You won't succeed if you do that,” he warned.
I'm trying to suggest that you can't take someone else's style and make it your own. “Naturally, you can't do it better than the style's creator, so you must develop your own, which is what will let people know that you, too, have something special to offer,” he continued.
