I Thought I Had Seen Jesus The First Day I Saw Don Jazzy – Davido
Nigerian artist Davido said in a now-viral interview that Mavin Records producer Don Jazzy served as his mentor when he first started making music professionally.
Davido stated that the first time he saw the Mavin boss, he believed he had seen Jesus, as he described how fantastic it felt to meet Don Jazzy.
The singer of “Unavailable,” who was recounting his journey into the music business, said that he was just 17 years old when he shot to fame.
He stated:
“I blew up when I was 17. I was a baby. I released ‘Damiduro' in October, and I turned 19 that December. I was 17 when I did “Back when.” I picked up a laptop and started going everywhere. My main strength was that I knew how to engineer and how to make beats. One of my cousins, Special, used to work with MOHITS, Dbanj. So, from there, I just entered, and they liked my swag—young and just chilling—and I knew work. Don Jazzy was my mentor. I remember the first day I saw Don Jazzy. I thought I was looking at Jesus. It was amazing. From there, I just started hustling and started meeting people.”
